about our founder/owner
JACKIE MONK is a lifelong fan of greeting cards and stationery, as well as the art—and power—of handwritten correspondence. After an impressive career at some of the finest magazines, she launched JUNEBUG INK in April 2022. The company, which prides itself on celebrating Black-American culture and traditions, is named after her late sister June who was a stationery collector and letter writing aficionado.
Prior to starting JUNEBUG INK, Jackie was the managing editor at WSJ. The Wall Street Journal Magazine. There she managed the print and digital teams, was responsible for editorial operations, supervised the budget and helped launch WSJ. China. Before joining WSJ., Jackie was the deputy managing editor at Real Simple for 15 years. She has also held executive-level editorial positions at Essence and InStyle, Vibe, Girl, Bridal Guide, New Woman, and Beauty Digest. Her work has also appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, Heart & Soul, Cosmopolitan, Suede, and Ladies Home Journal.
A journalist with extensive leadership, management, strategic, and operations expertise, Jackie is known for synthesizing information, implementing effective systems, and efficiently executing projects. While in her mid-twenties, she became beauty editor at New Woman, making her one of the first African American beauty editors at a major, general audience women’s magazine.
Throughout her career, Jackie has remained a committed mentor to dozens of students, up-and-coming journalists, and successful executives. She has received many industry accolades, including the Folio Top Women in Media Award, Black Women in Media: Literature & Publishing Award, and ColorComm Women of Color in Communications Award.
